Una instantánea de la nave Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) de la Nasa está causando dudas algunos astrónomos al no poder explicar como surgieron ciertas estructuras.
La cámara del High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRise) del MRO hizo una serie de fotografías en las que se podían apreciar unas crestas rocosas inusuales cerca de la región marciana de Aurem Chaos. Las imágenes fueron tomadas en 2011 y publicadas hace escasos días.
La extraña formación
Tras la publicación de la fotografía, los científicos admitieron no entender en absoluto cómo pudieron aparecer estas crestas. Para el estudio de Marte, es indispensable que los científicos entiendas las características geológicas del planeta.
Una vez logremos aterrizar nuevos rovers en el planeta rojo al igual que hacer misiones humanas, no solo nos ayudará a planificar programas futuros sino que también indicará en el caso de que haya, signos de vida.
Un equipo de la University of Arizona teorizó que estas extrañas crestas en las rocas estaban formadas por agua y restos de actividad volcánica.
En un comunicado, los científicos a cargo de la investigación dijeron:
Después de que siguió el proceso de ‘mezcla’, quizás miles de millones de años de erosión eólica continuó, dejando grietas cementadas en forma de crestas altas.
Simplemente son teorías, nadie sabe a que se debe la formación de estas crestas en la superficie de Marte.
